Evolution of a living room

Okay, I think I am finally starting to make some headway on the Giant Living Room. Never in a million years did I ever think that there would be anything difficult about having a big room, but there is! I know eventually it'll be where it needs to be, but so far I've just been banging my head against the wall trying to make what feels like a basketball court into a cozy room.

And seriously, I am NOT complaining. Really, really not. I'm just sayin'...the room has looked a little on the empty side:

I changed out the end tables and put something on the wall above the couch, and that helped, but not all that much.

Then I decided that adding a rug would solve everything and instantly make the room cozy, so I put the rug that my aunt gave us in the room.

It definitely made the seating area more defined, but it also made the coffee table stick out like a sore thumb so I had to add "find a replacement coffee table for cheap" to my constantly growing to-do list. The next day, Stacy told me about one that she had seen at a local thrift store and I went there and snatched it up for 20 bucks (thanks again, Stacy!). Switching it out with the old one made allll the difference.

I was going to paint the coffee table, but now I don't know...I kinda like it the way it is. What do you think?

If I do end up painting, I think I would only paint the base and leave the top as is. If I do that, what color do you think would be good for the legs? Green (similar to the drapes)? Red? Yellow? Something neutral? I just don't know, and maybe that's a sign that they shouldn't be painted at all. By the way, Ruby is loving the new rug. Isn't she cute posing on it?

Another new addition to the living room is a chair for the music/dvd corner:

Its the perfect chair to sit in to read or talk on the phone or listen to music.

I've got a lot more projects/new developments in the works that I'm really excited about, but I think this is enough for one post. I'll write more about those things hopefully this weekend.

spicy lemon pasta

I tried a new recipe last night that I have to share! I got it from the same place I've been getting all my recipes from lately - VeganYumYum. The woman who runs this website and creates all these recipes is seriously talented...the flavor, texture, and ingredient combinations she comes up with are always unexpected but absolutely perfect together.

This particular dish is called spicy lemon pepper pasta with broccoli, and it is easy and cheap (well, except for the sun-dried tomatoes, but the price is worth it because they add so much to the dish). The recipe is for 1, so I doubled everything and used more oil towards the end than what was called for.

The flavors were great (esp. the hot pepper flakes with the lemon juice), and it was also fun to make. I really like what adding the noodles to the wok at the end did to their flavor and texture. Anyway...I hope I'm not spending too much time on this blog talking about meals I'm making. Is it getting boring to read about? For me it seems impossible to be bored by reading about cooking or looking at pictures of food, but I know not everyone is as interested in this stuff as I am. At the same time, I think the purpose of a blog (or the purpose of my blog, anyway) is to have a place to talk about the stuff I'm pumped up about...I am super excited about all my new adventures in vegetarian cooking lately, so I'm not going to worry about it too much I guess.

Give this recipe a try! You won't be sorry :)

Not much to report these days. I got sick AGAIN, this time with the flu (which is why I've been MIA from this blog lately). It was pretty frustrating to get sick again after just getting over something 2 weeks earlier. But I'm feeling better now, and all I can do at this point is just not take for granted feeling good. There are a lot things on the horizon that I'm excited about, the biggest thing being WARM WEATHER. Spring is just around the corner and I can hardly wait. I just don't function as well in the winter. Although, I have to say that this winter has been one of my best, and I'm convinced its because I've kept myself busy with lots of house projects and cooking. I am longing for the day when I can drive around with the windows down, and when I don't have to spend 10 minutes suiting up in a coat/scarf/gloves/socks/shoes/sweaters/pants just to leave the house. It is February 12th today, and I'm counting on the weather being significantly better in 1 month's time. I know it won't be WARM warm yet, but it'll be on its way. Some other stuff I'm excited about are...

...my birthday in less than a month, and Seth's birthday in a little over a month. I love birthdays!! And I love getting older.

...Bush no longer being the president. I feel like he's been in office forever and I've hated every minute of it. Can't wait for someone new (esp. if that someone ends of being Obama).

...Sisters Weekend. My 2 sisters and I are meeting up in Atlanta in March to have a whole weekend together and I can't WAIT! It'll be the first time we've ever done anything like this, and I hope this ends up becoming a yearly tradition.

Well, that's all for now. Hopefully I'll make some more progress on the house soon and can post some pictures.
